Operator Control Modes

The EMS functions provide complete flexibility for scheduled and automatic energy storage charge/discharge coordination.

The Acuity-EMS controller supports hourly schedule-ahead capability for up to two-years in advanced based on historical load profile and regional incentive program guidelines.

Built-In features provide advanced control scenarios that simplify regulatory compliance and adherence to market participation rules.

Operator Configuration & Command Auditing

Leveraging Acuity’s system-wide event logging features, all Operator modified system configuration changes, operating envelope changes, command mode modifications, or setpoints are recorded in a fully auditable event log with timestamps, active user, reason description, and system enforced change description. Access to the PPC specific event logs are available directly through the user interface and downloadable in a single click.

Concurrent Command Entry & Execution

Operators are no longer limited by antiquated user interfaces that restrict commands to sequential single command entry. Acuity’s modern interface allows Operators to quickly and easily modify both Active Power and Automatic Control modes and setpoints from a single dialog, executing all Operator commands for parallel execution.

As an example, an Operator can respond to an operating instruction that requires both curtailment and constant voltage support in a single command entry, and have both the curtailment and voltage regulation execute in parallel, while creating a single event log for simplified auditing.

Recurring Command Scheduling

By default, Operators have the ability to execute all commands ad-hoc for immediate system execution. Additionally, Operators may choose to schedule recurring command modes and setpoint changes for both Active Power and Automatic Control modes for day and time, as well annual date based events.

This recurring event command capability utilizes the same EMS scheduling services and underpinnings enabling complex PPC and EMS control coordination without complicated integration between separate systems.

Generator Operating Envelope Bounds

Operators managing dozens or hundreds of generators are required to support a large variation of equipment capability differences, contractual limitations, and operating requirements. To ensure grid reliability and Operator accuracy, the Acuity-PPC supports visual indications and logical checks to allow for rapid verification of a generator operating within appropriate tolerances and to prevent out-of-range setpoints from being sent to the automation controller. These integrated backstops prevent Operator error, and enable a higher volume of managed assets per Operator as well.

Command Change Event Recording

In addition to Operator event logging, the Acuity-PPC supports a high-speed 1s interval event recorder that is triggered anytime a command mode or setpoint is executed. The duration of the event capture may be altered from 1 to 15m, set to a default of 3m to allow for generator stabilization. All event files are stored locally and instantly accessible for Operator retrieval as universally accessible CSV files. This feature is critical for commissioning, witness testing, and annual system capability testing.
